The Chairman of the Board of the Jordan Hotels Association (JHA), Mr. Hussein Hilalat, together with members of the Board, met with the General Manager of the Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO), Eng. Hassan Abdullah, to discuss avenues for strengthening cooperation and maintaining close coordination between the two parties in support of Jordan’s hotel sector and to help alleviate the operational and financial challenges facing hotel establishments.

The meeting reviewed the current status of the hotel sector across the Kingdom, with particular focus on the areas served by JEPCO that have been most affected, including Madaba Governorate. Discussions highlighted the key challenges confronting hotel establishments as a result of the decline in tourism activity, lower occupancy rates, and the consequent impact on their ability to meet operational and financial obligations.

The two parties also discussed the development of an appropriate mechanism for the installment-based settlement of outstanding electricity dues owed by hotel establishments without disconnecting electricity services. Such a mechanism would help ease financial pressures on hotels, ensure business continuity, and support the sector until tourism activity recovers and returns to normal levels.

Mr. Hussein Hilalat, Chairman of the Jordan Hotels Association, affirmed that the Association continues to work closely with various national institutions to develop practical solutions that contribute to safeguarding the sustainability of hotel establishments, particularly those located in the most affected areas. He noted that adopting a flexible repayment mechanism for outstanding balances without interrupting electricity services represents an important step toward reducing operational burdens and providing hotels with the necessary time to regain stability as tourism gradually recovers.

Mr. Hilalat added that the continued operation of hotel establishments extends beyond supporting the tourism sector alone, as it also preserves employment opportunities, supports local communities, and stimulates economic activity across the Kingdom’s governorates. He emphasized the importance of partnership and collaboration between national institutions and the hotel sector in addressing the current challenges.

Both parties agreed to maintain ongoing coordination and communication to address the circumstances of affected hotel establishments through clear mechanisms that take into account their operational and financial conditions while safeguarding the rights of the Jordan Electric Power Company.

The meeting also concluded with an agreement to jointly organize specialized awareness workshops to introduce hotel establishments to the services and solutions offered by the Jordan Electric Power Company and its affiliated and associated companies. These workshops aim to enable hotels to benefit from the available programs and services while promoting energy efficiency and reducing operating costs.

The Jordan Hotels Association affirmed that this meeting forms part of its continuous efforts to engage with national institutions and identify practical solutions to the challenges facing the hotel sector. It also reflects the Association’s commitment to strengthening public-private partnerships in a manner that supports the sustainability of hotel establishments, preserves employment opportunities, and contributes to Jordan’s national economy.
