Amman - Jordan

The Jordan Hotels Association, in cooperation with the Water Conservation Project funded by the U.S. Embassy in Amman, organized a workshop entitled “Reducing Operational Costs and Enhancing Water Use Efficiency in the Hotel Sector” on Tuesday, 4 February 2026. The workshop brought together representatives of hotels, government entities, and providers of specialized solutions and technologies.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Al Shawabkeh, Head of the Members Services Department at the Jordan Hotels Association, emphasized that sustainability represents a strategic opportunity to reduce operational costs and enhance the competitiveness of the hotel sector, particularly in light of the water scarcity challenges facing the Kingdom. She noted that cooperation with the Water Conservation Project aims to enable hotel establishments to adopt practical and smart solutions that improve resource efficiency and generate tangible operational savings, while also enhancing opportunities to obtain the Green Key certification. This, she added, reflects the commitment of Jordanian hotels to international environmental standards and reinforces the Kingdom’s position as a regional model in efficient and sustainable water resource management.

The workshop included a presentation on the objectives and key pillars of the Water Conservation Project, in addition to discussions on the main challenges related to managing water consumption in hotel establishments and the available opportunities to enhance efficiency in ways that positively impact both operational and environmental performance within the tourism sector.

Specialized sessions also addressed local and global trends in water efficiency in the tourism sector and showcased successful experiences of three- and four-star hotels that obtained the Green Key certification, highlighting the operational savings achieved and the positive environmental and operational impacts realized. The sessions further examined consumption patterns, common points of water loss, and key performance indicators (KPIs) used to measure efficiency across various hotel facilities.

The workshop concluded with interactive working sessions that brought together hotel representatives and water-saving technology providers to explore practical solutions and modern technologies aimed at enhancing water efficiency and reuse within hotel establishments, supporting the sector’s shift toward more sustainable and resource-efficient management practices.
