The Jordan Hotels Association organized a specialized training course titled “Kitchen Safety”, delivered by trainer Heba Al-Habahbeh, with the participation of chefs, kitchen staff, and stewarding personnel from various hotels. The course aimed to enhance awareness of occupational health and safety practices and promote a safer working environment in hotel kitchens.
The training covered the key hazards that kitchen employees may encounter during their daily duties and highlighted practical measures to mitigate these risks through the implementation of occupational safety procedures and adherence to preventive guidelines. Participants were introduced to the safe operation of electrical equipment and appliances, proper handling of knives, sharp tools, and cooking equipment, as well as preventive measures to reduce the risk of burns, cuts, electrical injuries, and slips. The course also emphasized the importance of wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and ensuring the safe storage of food products and chemicals to protect employees while supporting efficient kitchen operations.
The program also included practical exercises and real-life case studies that reflected the daily challenges faced by kitchen staff. Participants discussed a range of workplace scenarios and explored best practices for addressing them in accordance with internationally recognized occupational health and safety standards in the hospitality industry.
The course concluded by reaffirming that compliance with occupational health and safety procedures is an essential component of operational excellence within hotel establishments. Adherence to these standards contributes to protecting employees, reducing workplace accidents and injuries, enhancing operational efficiency, and fostering a safe and sustainable working environment.
