The Jordan Hotels Association organized an awareness workshop in collaboration with the Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan to introduce the international environmental program “Green Key.”
The workshop was opened by the Association’s Deputy Chairman, Mr. Hussein Hilalat, who emphasized the importance of transitioning toward environmentally friendly hotel practices as part of a broader approach to enhance the sustainability of the tourism sector in the Kingdom.
Hilalat noted that the Association is committed to supporting hotel establishments in adopting green tourism concepts due to their positive economic and environmental impacts. He also stressed that hotels’ compliance with international environmental standards enhances Jordan’s tourism competitiveness on both regional and global levels.
The workshop highlighted the significance of obtaining the “Green Key” certification and included a detailed explanation of the environmental and managerial standards required, as well as the benefits for establishments that meet these criteria.
The event was attended by representatives from five-star hotels, and featured successful case studies from Jordan and other countries, in addition to interactive discussion sessions among participants on ways to implement the program.
Participating hotels showed clear interest in applying the “Green Key” standards and expressed readiness to engage in this sustainable path. As part of its future plans, the Jordan Hotel Association aims to expand such workshops to cover all hotel categories across the Kingdom’s governorates, with the goal of increasing environmental awareness and promoting sustainable practices within the hospitality sector.
