Jordan Hotels Association Discusses Strengthening Fly Control Measures in the Dead Sea Region During Expanded Coordination Meeting

Amman - Jordan

The Jordan Hotels Association, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, convened an expanded coordination meeting with the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Local Administration to explore ways to strengthen fly control measures in the Dead Sea region. The meeting also included representatives of hotels in the area and several waste management and transportation companies working with them.

In this context, Acting General Manager of the Association, Mohammad Al-Qassem, emphasized that the meeting reflects ongoing joint efforts with all relevant stakeholders to enhance environmental and public health conditions in the Dead Sea region. He noted, “These efforts stem from our commitment to the public interest first and foremost, as well as to improving the visitor experience and ensuring a healthy and safe tourism environment that reflects Jordan’s standing as a leading destination.”

During the meeting, participants reviewed the current situation and challenges related to the spread of flies. Discussions covered existing control mechanisms, the types and effectiveness of materials used, and the optimal timing for spraying operations to ensure the best results while taking environmental and public health considerations into account.

An agreement was reached to develop a comprehensive and integrated action plan, under which the Dead Sea region will be divided into several geographical sectors. This approach aims to facilitate monitoring and implementation processes, enhance responsiveness, and clearly define the roles and responsibilities of each participating entity.

The meeting also underscored the importance of strengthening ongoing coordination among all concerned parties, intensifying monitoring of waste collection and transportation operations, and increasing compliance among tourism establishments with preventive measures. These efforts will contribute to improving the overall environment and preserving the area’s appeal as a key tourism destination.

This meeting comes as part of joint efforts to safeguard the tourism environment in the Dead Sea region and to enhance the quality of services provided to both visitors and the hospitality sector.
