On Tuesday,
January 11, 2022 the USAID Recycling in Jordan activity signed a Joint Action
Plan with the Jordan Hotels Association. Through this collaboration, the
partners will cooperate
and coordinate to promote recycling
within the hotels sector in Amman and increase adoption of recycling with
separation at source. In specific, the Joint Action Plan aims to build the
capacity and knowledge within JHA and hotels in Amman on recycling, raise
awareness on recycling among the hotels’ sector, establish a recognition scheme
by JHA to incentivize hotels to adopt recycling, and transfer the developed
knowledge and tools by the Activity on recycling to Jordan Hotels Association to
ensure sustainability of efforts and expansion of recycling practices among the
hotels’ sector in Jordan. USAID Recycling in Jordan activity deploys a market
systems approach to increase commercial sector utilization of recycling
services in Amman, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, the Greater
Amman Municipality, the private sector, and business associations. Jordan Hotels Association is a non-profit organization founded in 1969 and
is currently registered at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities of Jordan
under article 14 of the Tourism Law No. (20) of year 1988. With over 610member
hotels representing around 16986 employees and 29657 rooms, and working
hand-in-hand with the government to decrease unemployment rates, the value that
Jordan Hotels Association adds to the hotel industry, the hospitality sector,
the tourism industry, and the Jordan economy is significant. In addition, JHA is the biggest shareholder in the Jordan Applied University College of
Hospitality & Tourism Education, one of the leading hospitality education
establishments in the Middle East. |
